I just stumbled across this. Here’s the back of my bib from the 2009 Cape Cod Marathon. At the time running this marathon in Falmouth seemed like a good idea but I barely knew what I was doing. The night before I scribbled down the split time for each mile (like it mattered) with the arbitrary goal of finishing in 3 hours 55 minutes.
I finished in 3 hours 55 minutes but it wasn’t easy.
Now, after thousands and thousands of miles, splits are burned in my memory. Running them still isn’t easy.
